Softub water treatment process

Hi this is the first of many blogs about Softub care and maintenance.
Always refer to the Softub Owners Manual. Be sure to read the cautions and instructions on the back of the bottle of every product you use prior to using any product in or on your Softub.

DAILY and/or WEEKLY CARE – These instructions below are outlined in the Softub Water Treatment Care Guide:
For: SoftCare Chlorine -Use “Insta-Test” Chlorine Test Strips

1. Softcare Chlor. Add ¼ oz (one tea-spoon) per 100 gallons of water EVERYDAY, or every other day in the cooler months. Softcare Chlor is made especially for a Softub. Using any other brand of chlorine may seriously damage your Softub and void your warranty. Not all chlorines are alike.

a) Never get in your Softub unless the test strip shows some purple color line chart of “FC” or Free Chlorine..

b) If water looks cloudy, or slippery inside or the water smells like chemicals (always check with test strip) add more chlorine before getting in the water.

c) If you use another type of chlorine (liquid or tablets). The wrong chlorine will void your warranty, stretch and/or bleach vinyl inside and ruin your Softub.

2. SoftCare GON is a metal and stain preventer. Use Gon especially when first filling the tub. Use two ounces per 100 gallons. GON removes iron in water. LeisureTime Defender removes scale and prevent a build up of scale in the spa plumbing and jets. Use 1 oz. of Defender weekly. Hard water is liquid sandpaper. Defender prevents damage to pump/motor seal from the effects of hard water.

3. SoftCare pH UP & DOWN: VERY IMPORTANT-àWhen indicated by the pH and alkalinity color chart on the test strips, adjust the pH/Alkalinity with SoftCare pH up or pH down as instructed. Use 1 heaping tablespoon at a time. The most important thing you can do to keep your vinyl like new and prevent wrinkling, is to control the pH level. If down is required it may take many days or weeks of repeated application to lower the pH to OK range. pH Up usually moves the pH up the same day. You must make sure the pH stays in check at least weekly. Never let the pH levels go to the extreme. High pH will wrinkle the interior liner and low pH will stretch the skin and void the liner warranty. Once the liner is wrinkled it will never come back. The only fix is to re-line the Softub.

4. If pH maintenance is difficult. SoftCare pH HOLD, will stabilize the pH and lock in the pH level for several months. Use 18 oz. for 300 gallons.

5. FILTER: Once the water is hot, only then can you attach or remove the filter. Tip the filter sideways to remove. Clean filter monthly, Spray with high pressure hose. Every other month use Renu Filter Cleaner. Remove filter sock and spray on Renu let sit then rinse away till clean. To replace filter, first soak the filter in hot water to soften the rubber neck, then place filter back on either drain cap at the bottom. Note! Do not try to remove filter if spa is empty or has cold water.

6. SPA FROG is a “silver ionizer”. Natural Silver acts as an algaecide and extends the life of the free chlorine, thereby reducing the frequency of sanitizer needed. Place inside filter. Lasts 4 months

MAINTANENCE AND CLEANING, (other items you could use to care for your Softub):

A. SCUM BUG - removes the oil slick by absorbing oils floating on top of the water. It can be used over and

over again just wash out with hot soapy water.

B. SPA VAC or GRIT GITTER - vacuums out (sand, and grit ), from the bottom of spa.

C. SKIMMER - use to remove the debris that floats onto of the water.

D. SPA PERFECT - Removes organics with enzymes, oils, hair jells and conditioners cloud the water.

SPA PERFECT keeps water fresh smelling and sparkling clear. Two oz. weekly

E. DEFOAM - rids your water of excess foam. Foam is usually from not enough chlorine or wearing cotton.

F. SPA PURGE/ECO ONE PIPE CLEANER - will clean jets, pipes. 2 x a year add before draining pour in, run tub before drain. Then clean the inside of your tub use a mild cleaner like BioClean . Rinse well.

G. OUTSIDE VINYL - Use Softub Cleaner and 303 Protectant to prevent fading the outside vinyl and cover.

H. TUBGUARD COVER- is highly recommended in the Softub Owners Manual to protect your form damaging UV rays, from pollen, dust, tree sap, or bird droppings.
